how large are the class sizes?

It totally depends... A lot of the freshman/intro/required core classes, such as Econ, IR, Intro Bio and Chem, and classes of that nature can have up to 200 people in it. However, once you get to sophmore level classes, and classes in your major, they are much smaller. Also, you will never find a foreign language class with more than 20 students, often times its much less. I have had Spanish and Portuguese classes with only 5 students in them, which is awesome! Theology classes, such as Problem of God, and english/humanities classes, have no more than 30 students in them.

Also, what is good about the big lecture classes is that they all break down into discussion sections of 10-20 students, where the TA will go over what was taught in lecture, and you can ask questions and get more individual attention.
