Class size

Hi,
I read on the website that the average class size is 17-20. But I also heard from other stats that the average class size is larger, like 30. Does anyone know for sure...sorry that this is not the most important question but I have a hard time learning in larger classes.

Thanks!

My class sizes have been approx. (give or take one or two):

Math: 8, 19, 12
PoliSci: 16, 30, 20
Econ: 30, 25, 25
German: 13
Music: 20
Writing: 15 (all writing classes are capped at 15)

For an average of 19 students/class. Clearly, some departments have slightly larger classes--Econ is a very popular major, and there are many courses that econ majors/minors must take, so the class size works out to be somewhat larger. Conversely, math is not such a popular department, and I entered beyond the level of calculus, which is definitely the most widely taken math class, so my average class size there has been quite moderate.

From this breakdown, I would guess that the average class size really is in the 17-20 range but, especially if your interests lie in some of Wellesley's more popular subjects, you will have some larger classes.

thank you so much advantagious! i really appreciate it!

Here are the fall 2008 enrollment figures.

Thanks for posting that WM...very interesting an helpful.

I really like the sizes of my classes. I once had 50 people in my Japanese class in high school...it was insane. Now I have about 7 or 9 people in my Japanese class. It's so much nicer, I feel like I get a lot more personal attention from my prof that way. My Russian class has a lot of people this year, about 20. Still it's a relatively nice size, where the prof can work with everyone on their language.

I'd say that my biggest class is my Psych 101 class, but I think that it's because it's an intro class. Still, the sizing really feels like any other high school course.
