I was admitted and am doing a mid year trasfer this Jan. I was just wondering class sizes in the different subjects.

Whoa you can do this?
I didnt know Columbia had mid-year transfers

At any rate... I'm a freshman so I don't know how applicable this will be for your classes:

my intro classes range from: 50 - 200 ppl (large lectures) with recitation groups (10-15ppl)

my LitHum class is about 20 ppl

my Fontiers class is about 15 ppl

I've heard that UW classes are like 10-12 ppl

In general I think classes get smaller the higher you go.

truazn is right on...

i might just add that my arabic class is about 12.

i've never found class size to be constraint on my learning, there all the right sizes, and have ways for people needing extra attention to get extra attention (recitations, TA office hours, prof office hours, help rooms)

This varies so much by department, course, and popularity of any given professor, that an average really doesn't tell you anything. Core courses and language courses will be small. As a rule, intro science classes will be large.

For the rest, you can look at the bulletin to find classes you might be taking, then look at the directory to see current enrollment in those classes (Fall will be more accurate than Spring, since there is always a lot of change between the time people sign up and how things shake out a few weeks into the semester as students add or drop:
