I have heard the class sizes are large at Northwestern. Could someone address this?

They told me the exact opposite. While some of the Freshmen classes may be larger, I think most of the rest are suppose to be much smaller, at least compared to a lot of other top schools. Also, on my trip I went to a math class with a Freshman and I would say their were no more than forty people (and the professor was so cool, she is from Turkey, and she did not seem as intimidating as all my teachers say college professors are). That's at least what I've heard.

Many of the intro courses are large but not as huge as large state universities.
Larger classes break into sections which are taught by TAs.
There is an extremely popula soc course which has is uncapped and recently had 700 students attend. This is not the norm however. Their studet: prof ratio is low which translates into many small and medium sized courses in the higher level courses. The two mandatory freshman seminars are small.

science classes tend to be larger, but the humanities are itty-bitty..

i sat in on an expository writing class, there were about 10-12 students... and an inorganic chemistry class.. about 200 students.

none taught by TAs though.
