Class sizes?

A question for current or past UT students...

Obviously a campus with tens of thousands of students has to have some pretty big classes. But how big exactly are they? I realize it varies, but, for example, what's the largest class you've ever had? The smallest? Does/did being in honors programs help you to find smaller classes? Sorry if it's a stupid or vague question, but I'm really curious.

Well first year is when you have the huge class sizes. The class sizes will go down as you make your way through your degree. I had about 4-500 people in my EE306 class and about 3-400 in my Microeconomics class first semester. Now my class sizes are ~25, ~20, ~60, ~60, ~45

Huge variance.

I am a freshman and my largest class this entire year was 50. Only 4 of the 10 courses I took were specifically Plan II courses, the others just ended up being small. Look on the class schedule, and it might say “designed for 35 or fewer students” on the description, and that’s one thing I look for when I sign up. Also, once I got to know the buildings on campus, which building a class is in can tell you how big a class is. For instance, a class in the Six-Pac isn’t going to be that huge, but a class at the UTC or Jester will usually be a 100+ student class.

The largest classes I’ve had are the lower division ones, with about 400 students.
The smallest non-lab class I’ve had had 14 people (Upper division).

So yes, it varies a lot. It gets smaller as you move along.

wow there are really that mean people in freshman electrical engineering?

First semester yes. Second semester it drops off pretty sharply. Depending on who teaches that class, it can be a pretty big weed out class.

ohh didn’t know it was that popular…probably 90-95% guys I’m guessing lol

First semester
1/20-1/30
Second semester+
1/40

That economics class was a slice of heaven, but after that, I have felt like **** in almost all of my classes.

haha i bet…

I’m thinking about doing an EE fig so there will probably be around 30 ppl…but not sure yet…

There will probably be more girls proportionally in the FIG. I know I had no interest in the FIGs, nor did any of my (male) friends. But the girls I know in EE are more likely to be in FIGs or to take GEs(General engineering classes mainly for tutoring).
