I'm a Dartmouth '14 and was wondering how big the class sizes were. When I went on tour, I believe the tour guide said that most class were like 20 people but I'm not sure. So how big is the average class? Thanks.

Also, what’s the average class like? I’m also a '14 and probably going to major in math/chem, so any majors with some experience in those classes would be great to hear from!!

Sorry for hijacking your thread geezer, but hope this can answer your question: [Ask Dartmouth - Academics](http://www.dartmouth.edu/~ask/categories/academics/06.html)

“…65 percent of classes had fewer than 20 students and many classes are capped to ensure that they are small”

bump? So the average classs is 16? Do you think the fact that Dartmouth may increase the number students will increase the class sizes?

The median class size is 16. Meaning 50% of classes have 16 people or less, and 50% have 16 people or more.

Freshman year your science/math classes are going to be decently large, that’s just how it is everywhere. But, as you move into the upper level classes the size goes down dramatically. Here’s some real info for you 14’s:

[Median Grades for Undergraduate Courses](This page has moved)

I know it says median grades, but the class sizes are in there too.

Note that the list above does not include any of the specialized seminar courses that help provide the 16 or fewer median stats.
