How do you know when you are of sophomore/junior/senior standing? Does it have something to do with the number of credits you have? If so, what are the benefits of being in a higher standing? Thanks :)

generally 45 units is one level (15 units for 3 quarters). so 45=sophomore, 90=junior, etc.
if you look yourself up on the uc davis website with the “people” search it will generally say what your academic standing is.

seniority is EXCELLENT when it comes to registering for classes, as registration times are purely based on who has the most units.

Does your registration time take into account units you’re currently taking? For example, if I’m taking 17 units my fall quarter, and I started out with 28 units, would I register for winter quarter as a sophomore?

no i don’t think it does. i don’t think it changes your class standing until you complete the units.

registration is numerical anyways. usually my friends and i are within 1-2 hours of each other bc we have slightly more/less units than the other. so you will have an earlier pass time than freshman with less than 28 units, but later than those with, say, 44 units.

Ah alright. Thank you!

thanks tons! that makes sense. after the registration freeze ends, is it possible/likely to get the class/es you want? of course, #10 on the waitlist would have a higher chance than #24… but to generalize, how is registration after the freeze? thanks :)

Not 100%. Some students get priority registration for participating in athletics or honors programs. But these are a minority of students, so they are not likely to fill up any classes before the rest of campus gets to register.

well, it’s definitely incentive to take, say, 15 units as opposed to taking 13 :)
