Class Timing

Get up and eat breakfast first? Calc isn't too hard, just take notes (write down the problems the professor does on the board, etc.) and figure it out later. You can pretty much learn Calculus from reading the textbook and doing problems anyway.

And I had a year of 9 am recitation unfortunately... I probably missed 5 or so recitations each semester, plus a lecture or two (lectures were 9:40 on other days of the week). It's annoying, but you wake up for the class and you can either take a nap later or you're already wide awake by mid-day and you just get on with the day. Ideally, I'd say 11 am is borderline and early-mid afternoon classes are good. I also had a workshop last year on Mondays from 8:30-10:30. I didn't think it was bad because of being late, but in the fall it was annoying cause I missed two hours of Monday night football heh. Just be a CS major and you'll never have a morning class [;

Also, I think it's OK to have relatively early (ie 10 am, 9 if really necessary) TR or MWF then try to have afternoon classes the other days so you can sleep in. Next semester I'm lucky, I'll have a 9:40 TR but no Friday classes and MW starts at 2.

If you and your roommate both have 8 am's, help each other get up.

IDK, I like the morning but then agan I'm only in high school, so how could it be much different then high school to get up at 8:00?

^It changes SO much in college. I thought the same thing, since high school started at 7:30, how hard could waking up for a 9:15 be? But even that seems early once you're in college.

Now I have 8 ams, which most people avoid at all costs. I've gotten used to it mostly, and enjoy starting the day early, but it can be tough to get myself out of bed that early.

IMO, the best starting time is 10-11:30. 9:30 is alright. Any later than that and I just waste time.

I like having all my classes take place between 10 and 2/3, ideally.

QFT.

In high school I would wake up at like 5:45 to catch the bus, and then around 6:30 when I got my license and started driving to school.

But in college, even a 9 am is too early. It's probably largely because in college, your sleeping habits totally change. I didn't stay up extremely late in high school, but it's normal in college.

I got by first semester with a lot of staying up late (projects, papers, partying, etc.) and I had 6 AM workouts then 8 AM class every day. I did take naps nearly every day though, which helped immensely. Second semester I had a 9 AM every day, and it did suck some of the time, especially after certain nights of pledging or a really hard 6 AM workout, but I got through it. I didn't really the 9 AM class so much as the fact that I had class 9-6 on MW. That was brutal.

I used to HATE early classes. Absolutely despised them and tried to schedule around them. This last fall I had to have an 8am class everyday because it's the only time they were offered, so I went ahead and scheduled all of my classes to be done by noon. The first week was horrible, but after I got used to it I didn't even really notice. I'd get home from class, eat lunch, take a nap, workout, then go to work or study. I loved it. Have a similar schedule for this upcoming fall.

Hamadeh, you'd be surprised. In high school, you generally go to bed pretty early on weeknights, 11 or 12 at the latest. I know I usually went to bed around 10:30 or 11. But in college, even on weeknights, there's so much to do (and so much fun to be had) that you often don't go to bed until 2am or even later. Getting up for an 8 or 9am class after going to bed at 2:30 is HARD.

I like taking all of my classes in a row on the same day, whether it's morning or afternoon. If there are too many or overly long breaks in between, the day gets very long and I never get anything done in between classes.

Now that I have more seniority I can schedule how I like, but it is hard in the first year when the better time slots are filled. For me there was nothing worse than starting at 8:30 AM and finishing at 7 PM like in my first year. It makes the schedule disruptive and difficult to start or finish any work until later at night.

Good feedback here. =] I'll store all this advice in the back of my head!
