I am interviewing at 4pm and there is a class I want to visit from 2:40-4, and its the only feasible time. I would have to leave early, is this improper? Should I tell the profesor my cirumstances before emailing him?

just sit by the door and try to sneak out as inconspicuously as possible. profs are used to people coming in late and leaving early. hell, last year in grad school, i would get up and leave half way through my classes because i was so bored.

if its a small class then email. If it has more than 100 students, nobody will notice/care. Have you asked if you can make the interview earlier or later?

It's polite (and often expected) that you contact a professor for permission before sitting in on a class. That would be a perfect time to explain that your interview will require you to leave early. Give the prof a nod of appreciation as you quietly leave.
