hey guys, there's a bio class i really want to take but the waitlist is already at like 46 ppl! I'm a freshman so I haven't even registered yet but when my enrollment window opens (3rd, lucky me) can I speak to the professor about expanding the class? this would be before spring semester starts, is that okay to do?

I wouldn't count on getting in, but you can always e-mail now and ask if the professor has plans to expand. I would ask sooner rather than later so you have a spot in an alternate class if necessary.

Is the bio class a lab class like bio 103 or 151? For those classes, the lab space is usually what limits the size of the class and there's nothing that can be done about it. That is not to say that you can't get in. But the only way you'll get into classes like those would be if someone dropped or switched out so you should go for a section with as few people on the waitlist as possible.

Think of it this way, look at all the sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are taking the class.
You have more than enough time to take this specific bio class.
