hey guys so im palnning to be a freshmen Chem eng at ga tech :)

Im just looking at some courese and I looked at the requirements, i plan to take calc 1 becuase i heard its good to start from the beginning at college so i didnt take the ap exam for phy or calc,

However, for chem i can use my subject test to get out of CHEM 1211K and also maybe take the literature subject test in june to rid of ENGL 1101 ENGLISH COMPOSITION I, but i heard that this class is easy to get an A?

just wondering if this is a good idea or should i just take all of the required courses, i hread the intro classes are pretty simple, but idk honestly ;( I honestly dont want to have regrets later in the years about tkaing or not taking courses so any ideas about some fresh courses reconmendations would be cool thanks guys :)

Exempt whatever you can. You’re GPA may take a slight hit in the long run. But it just isn’t worth the trouble of getting your ass up 40+ times to go to a class that you could exempt.

Did you really come to college to learn things you already know? ;-)

Strong recommendation to take the course you are eligible to take. Taking easy course leads to bad habits and wrong expectations. GT doesn’t give much ‘free’ credit, so if you can take it, GT thinks you’ve earned it.

You should take
Math 1501
Chem 1212k
CS 1371
and Engl 1102

You should take

and Engl 1102

You’re pretty much locked into:
Math 1501
Chem 1212k
Engl 1102 (this could be postponed until spring, but there’s no reason not to get it out of the way)

That’s 11 hours.

Then, you could either add on CS 1371 like ilyssa recommended or something like Hist 2111/2112… and, of course, there’s always GT 1000 if you want it.

Math 1501
Chem 1212k
CS 1371
and Engl 1102

That’s a pretty solid schedule. I retook Calc 1 and am so thankful that I did! I know some people will say that you shouldn’t do this because you’re already going to know everything, but truthfully, it’s practically a free A, and I wanteded to have at least some cushioning on my GPA. I also skipped one of the English classes so that I only had to take ENG 1102. Although they’re extremely easy classes, they’re a pain and involve lots of pointless work. Instead of taking english first semester you could take psychology, history, econ, health too. There’s only one or two ENG1102 classes open in the fall semester whereas in the spring there are tons of different classes and topics to choose from (so you can pick a topic that’s more interesting to you). That’s what I did. CS 1371 will tough unless you’re already educated in computer science (or just have a natural knack for it). Chem is going to be hard no matter what, so I’d take the credit in that case too. Also, consider taking GT1000. You only have to go to it one hour a day and there’s practically no work involved. It’s kind of pointless, but I met a couple cool people and got my teacher to write me a nice recommendation letter.
