Do I have to complete all of my premedical classes by the time I apply to medical school? I'm having scheduling conflicts next semester for physics and I was wondering if it would be acceptable to medical schools if I take physics this coming summer (after my junior year right when I'm applying for medical school admissions)? I've already completed all of my other premedical classes with the exception of physics. Thanks a lot!

I wouldn’t bother taking it over the summer; just push it off to senior year.

Like BDM said, its fine to push it off - you just need to have the prereqs done before you matriculate, not necessarily before you apply. The thing to think about is the MCAT - have you taken it already? Physics is a pretty important component.

Ah, thanks for the responses. Ya, I might just push it off til senior year then. And yeah, I’m taking my kaplan course right now and physical sciences is definitely my weakest by far. I took AP physics in highschool, but that seems so long ago now! I’m starting to get behind on the Kaplan work too since I’m working like 45 hrs a week at the hospital… trying to keep up though.

How badly is the PS section going?

Well on my diagnostic my VR was a 9, my PS a 6, and BS a 7. Honestly, I just feel like I’m not even reading the PS passages and just randomly guessing answers. I just get so lost in the passage and all the obscure material (which, in my opinion isn’t related to not having a physics class yet, more the fact that I can’t relate the passage to anything but jiberish) that it’s a mess. I’m hoping to improve my VR a bit (I’d love a 12-14; when I went back and checked the ones I missed, most were just from misreading the question due to rushing through), a 10 in BS and a 9-10 in PS, though I’m feeling like the latter might be a stretch at the moment. Any suggestions? I’m just so behind on my work and I don’t feel like I’m gaining very much from the class partly b/c of my busy work schedule (and I’d cut back if there weren’t money concerns). Any advice would be appreciated!

Well, for one thing having to balance 45 hours a week with an MCAT class is pretty normal; that’s what I did, along with a clinical volunteering trip to Mexico. It sounds to me like you’re in serious trouble on the PS section; I don’t know that taking physics would help, but the problems you’re describing certainly imply that you’re going to need all the help you can get.

At this point, this seems to me like you might need to take an extra year.
