Classes and credits

How many classes does someone generally take in a week? And how many credits/semesters are are 4's and 5's worth on AP tests?

you can get up to two class credits from college classes taken elsewhere and fours and fives on a.p. exams, if you are entering with freshman status. the rest are useless. therefore, if you're going to pomona and you already have two or more of the above, don't bother taking any more a.p. exams. a.p. exams are not even good for placement (i asked). you have to take pomona's placement exam when you get there. before you kick yourself for taking all the ones you probably already took, don't, because they probably helped get you into college. i called them and learned this, because i have two fours and a five from last year, as well as two courses taken at colby college, and would have taken more exams this year, only i already have way more than i can use. hope that helps.

max.

Will class credits from AP exams satisfy major requirements or general education requirements?

ap exams satisfy none of the above. all they do is reduce the number of courses that you need to take at pomona from 32 down to 30, but you'll probably end up taking more than 32 if you go there any way, from cumulatives and the occasional 5-class semester. pomona's pretty elite, and you basically need good ap scores to get in there, so with that assumption in mind, i suppose, and the fact that they want you to be getting a diverse education while actually in college, they aren't gonna help with your requirements. after all, why go to college and major in something that you already have all your credits for?

How heavily are they weighted in the admission decisions?

I'm pretty sure you get credit for most AP's, but only two go toward your the required 32 you need to take at Pomona. Also, some AP's do allow you to place out of classes and requirements under certain circumstances, even if you have more than two, and you don't have to necessarily take a placement exam. Econ, Psych, Chemistry, Calc, Languages, and Computer Science are examples of AP's you probably should still take.

how is the grade inflation? its on a weird 12 point scale right? are A's hard to get and do a lot of people get C's and such? i was looking at the course catalog and it said to graduate with latin honors you need about a 11.2/12....12 being an A and 11 being an A-. thats kind of scary. or maybe its just easy to get good grades here?
