Classes and Double Major?

I'm curious about the curriculum at UVA. I was accepted ED and I am wondering what degree of flexibility I will have next year. Also, how challenging is it to double major? I'm very interested in studio art, but I wish to study political science or arabic as well.

Double majoring is pretty simple. I believe the College of Arts and Sciences (CLAS) only lets you double major and minor, at most.

But since you don't have to decide until your third year at UVa, you have plenty of time to explore.

However, if you happen to decide on something in your 3rd/4th year, you might have to increase your semester credits to be above average or settle for something less rigorous.

In my opinion, the wonderful thing about UVa is you don't have to pay extra money to take as many classes as you like each semester.

The normal amount is 15 credits which is equivalent to approximately 5 classes. I've had friends take 30 credits (~10 classes) per semester. Of course, they came close to dying of stress, but still pulled through with B+/A- averages. Although these are not stellar grades, if you're determined, then you can probably do it.

I'm not sure about studio art or arabic. But UVa has an honors Politcal & Social Thought program. It requires you to complete a thesis and this usually takes more work. Most majors do not require theses in the CLAS.

wait....so you can have two majors AND a minor? i didn't know that was possible. that's really cool.

It's not particularly difficult to double major, especially if you come in with AP credits and you know what you want to major in during your first year. Most BA majors require about 40 credit hours of coursework, so doing two would not be a stretch at all.

Yes, college is up to two majors, and up to one minor. Note that you can not do a single major and two minors for example.

That is insane...30 credits per semester. At Rutgers, anything over 20.5 requires permission from the Dean. I don't know if you're credits are equivalent to ours here.

If you're doing a science, engineering, or math-related major then anything over 21 credits per semester is killer and probably NOT possible.

I can see 30 credits being possible with ******** majors and such.
