I am an international student coming to UCLA and was having a look at the Class Planner tool on MyUCLA, only it appears that all of the classes I really wanted to take (e.g. Beginner Spanish and some statistics courses) are all either full already or have a waitlist.
Can someone explain why this is? My enrollment starts on 30th June and I’m really confused now. Cheers
Yes classes fill up fast. My sophomore D also wanted to sign up for Spanish 1 and it filled up before her enrollment slot which was a few days ago (so over a week before yours). As for why this is, basically it’s a big school and budgets are tight.
If you are a first year, and if you attend new student orientation, they will guarantee that you get 3 classes. They usually allocate a certain number of spots for certain classes and open them at each orientation sessions so freshman can enroll in them. If you’re not a freshman, I would suggest joining the waitlist if you can, or if there is no waitlist, attend the class and talk to the professor for a PTE number which is basically like a special enrollment pass a professor can give to a certain amount of students. If not don’t worry too much because unless the class is a series, they might offer the same class for more than one quarter. Good luck!
