No one is messing with you. The admin KNOWS the classes are full. New students have the LOWEST priority when picking classes. this makes sense; seniors need their classes more than juniors, and sophomores need their classes more than freshman; this is how things work at EVERY COLLEGE. Stop complaining and work with the system.

The ignorance here makes my blood boil.

Please, FYI. This is how most large 4-year colleges work. What kind of sensible university would leave empty spaces in all their classes?

Hey, nice post. I heard they reserve classes from incoming transfers.

OP you work at the skl or something?

sig probably works at adminssions.

nope. transfers are guaranteed one class in their major, but it could be a class you already took at community college. 4,000 some dollars a quarter for feminist studies and some class on the empowerment of [insert culture here].

Well, there have to be some reserved classes for transfers who didn’t attend orientation.

@SanFranciscoKid did you have trouble getting the classes you need at UCSB even when the classes have like at least 10 seats available?

@Kitty

What’s your major?

I got one class in my major, the rest general classes I have no desire to take but it was the only classes left. Many classes that do have spaces require pre-reqs taken at UCSB or limited to specific majors.

I was told transfers had reserved spots as well, but the moment I started browsing the section virtually every decent time was full - I found one for history that conflicted with an english class (don’t like either but english meets less), one for philosophy with a teacher that had a horrible ratemyprof rating, mostly everything closed at GS/MES/PoliSci. Some ethnic studies class are available. Pass on that one.

The orientation should have just started with…btw new quarter students, you’re going to be stuck with classes no one wants and you’ll still pay the same as the rest of us!11!

Boo :-/ I’m a sociology major…I see that some random classes are open. It’s just I’m scared I won’t get ANY classes. For my major I only need 6 random classes out of my major so it won’t be too bad to take a random class. Most of the classes I saw that are still open don’t require English or a prereq or a restriction. MEH

are you doing the advanced search that shows only open classes? because on the regular search, some individual classes will show 30/14, but at the very stop it’s 230/230 (or however whatever the limit is for that section) - the course is thus full. did you attempt to add those classes?

Haven’t tried adding since my registration date is on sept 6. Even when I advance search, it shows 8 open or something.
