Classes at a local community

For those who take classes at a local community college: How do you guys take classes at a local community college? Do you guys just leave during school to take these classes? Do you go at night? No one from my school has done it before. How does it work?

I’m looking into taking a Computer Science class at a local community college, so I was actually just looking up information on community college classes.

My plan - if it all works out - is to take an online course run through UMass that runs from late May to early July. So it won’t conflict with school too much and I can work from home. You could probably find a similar situation if you look around a bit. I haven’t done this before either so I’m also at a bit of a loss.

At my school you have three options

 1. Do it in the evening and miss one morning high school class
 2. Do the course during school hours but return for remaining HS courses
 3. Complete the course during summer vacation

All options need counselor and principal permission before you do it and if you pass the courses you also get a high school credit. Every school is different so you may have to ask your counselor first. Also make sure that the credits can be transferred.

I am a high school sophomore and taking my 6th community college course this semester. Taking college PreCalculus as my 1st period class on their campus than driving to my school. This is my first class on their campus-everything else has been online.

I would start with your community college and ask them about their policy. If they will allow, get your school system’s approval. I was lucky to get in as a 9th grader and now their rules have changed where students have to be 11th/12th graders to participate.

Good luck!

Oh, completely agree with PippaKarenina. I live in North Carolina and community college courses won’t transfer to college like Duke, Wake Forest, etc. Do some research about where you want to go to college so what you take will transfer.
