Hey guys :)
I'm applying to be a VISP student at Barnard next spring, and I was wondering what classes you'd recommend taking? I'm allowed to take both Barnard and Columbia classes. I'd rather not be overly-stressed while on exchange, plus it's my first time visiting the US, so preferably lighter/easier subjects? I come from a humanities (communications) background, but I'm allowed to take any subject from any discipline while I'm on exchange. I'm an Australian second year university student, and I'll be in my third year (final year) next spring. Any help and recommendations will be much appreciated!
Thanks so much! :)

this is from spec’s blog: [Still looking for classes? | Spectrum](http://spectrum.columbiaspectator.com/features/chalkboard/still-looking-for-classes) I haven’t personally taken any of these, but I’m planning on taking Kenneth Jackson’s History of the City of New York next year and I know a lot of people who valued Gulati’s econ class/my advisor said it was worth taking even for an American Studies/Nonfiction writing double major like me. here’s a less detailed list from bwog: [Classes to Take Before You Die I Mean Graduate: The List | Bwog](Classes to Take Before You Die I Mean Graduate: The List - Bwog)

additionally, Liza Knapp (in the slavic department) is fantastic–I’m taking her Tolstoy, Doestoevsky, and the English Novel class basically on a whim/because of her, and Bruce Robbins (comparative literature) is incredible if intimidating. Other great professors include Gareth Williams (classics), Eric Foner (history), Andrew Delbanco (american studies), and James Schapiro (english). Check out culpa.info for student reviews of various professors and classes while you look around the directory–look for gold and silver nuggets, those are the highest rated.
