I heard from someone, or read somewhere (I can't recall how I cam across the information, it was probably intercepted in passing), that MIT students could take classes at harvard and vise-versa. Now I've tried to look for more information, but I can't find any. Am I imagining things? If there is such a thing, can anyone give me a link where I could find more information?

You can also cross-register at Wellesley, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Massachusetts College of Art

Here's a link to one program: http://web.mit.edu/shass/undergraduate/programs/cross-reg.shtml[/url

And more (see #5): http://web.mit.edu/registrar/www/reg/regfaq.html

Finally, here's a bit in Matt's blog about cross-registering: http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/qanda/questions_and_answers/questions_omnibus_part_1.shtml

Yes, it's true -- MIT students can cross-register for almost any course at Harvard, up to a maximum of two per term if they are full-time MIT undergraduates. (MIT students are not permitted to register for courses at Harvard Business School, but can register for courses offered by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and any of the other professional schools.)

Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences cross-reg instructions

Most people cross-register for languages or for other humanities classes. As I understand it, it's difficult to get credit for a Harvard course that MIT offers without some extenuating reason -- that is, it's not encouraged to take the Harvard version of intro physics or something just to get out of the MIT version.

EDIT: Sorry for cross-posting, over30. :)

Mollie, no problem, your information is probably more up to date - I just did a quick google search. And I don't know why some of my links didn't work.

I know this was already answered, but I asked the guy who interviewed me about that since I take Italian. He said that yea basically I could take it at Harvard so I know that it is possible. I also want to take Hebrew, but I doubt taking more than one language is possible... Anyway, that's the answer again!

Well, the only real issue is that Harvard and MIT schedules don't line up -- in the fall, Harvard starts 2-3 weeks later than MIT and Harvard finals are during MIT's IAP. (The spring schedules are more concordant.)

It also, of course, takes planning to coordinate travel time between the two campuses; although Harvard and MIT are both in Cambridge and are connected by the subway and by the bus, it does take more time to get from Harvard to MIT than to get from one end of MIT's campus to another.

Thanks everyone!
