Classes before transferring to Emory University

Hi everyone!

I am a rising sophomore who intends to apply for Emory’s spring transfer. I plan to apply as a Economics major. Should I take more Economics classes which might fulfill my major at my current school or core classes? I am wondering which way will cause less credit losses. Should I take my major classes after transferring? Thanks!

Economics is a tricky one because they do seem to be picky about about accepting transfer credit. I would definitely take the lower division courses as those may be accepted. Just avoid electives or intermediate courses. They will likely ask for a syllabus regardless.

No inside information here but it makes sense that Emory would accept your Calculus I and Calculus II credit hours. Those classes are required for the Emory Econ major and are generic enough that they’re probably similar to what your current college offers.

If you’re considering an Econ/Math pathway, you might consider taking more advanced math courses required of that course of study before transferring. I suspect that the Econ department will be more likely to accept Math/Computer Science credits than credits for more advanced economics courses from another college.

That totally makes sense! thanks!
