Hi, I'm going to be a freshman majoring in Electrical Engineering this fall, and I was wondering what courses I should be taking. I'm not sure yet, but I might want to focus on bio, what would I take in that situation?

My relevant ap scores are:
English lit: 3
physics c(both): 5
calc bc: 5
chem: 5
econ(both): 5

They’ll go over all of this with you at orientation. During your first quarter, I wouldn’t recommend taking four classes but it can be done. I’d say take Math 32A, Chem 20A and a GE (will work for EE or Biology).

I wanted to take a CS class, which should I take?

CS 31, you could probably take that instead of Math 32A because you’re two math classes ahead. If you could get into Math 32A, Chem 20A, and CS 31 then that would be ideal but if not then just take a GE, 20A and CS 31

If your going bio then yea take Chem 20A, but if you later decide not to, you can waive out of Chem 20A with your chem ap test, at least thats what I did. CS31 takes alot of time and managing your time would be really important. Its hard during fall too so keep that in mind, especially if you never did c++ programming (like me). I actually wouldn’t recommend taking Math 32A, chem 20A and cs31 in fall quarter. Math 32A was alright, didn’t take too much out of me, but chem is a subject where if you fall behind, it’ll take loads more time to catch up. In cs31, you end up having programming projects due every week and even when you start early, it might take a while. They get much much harder too. I’d say if you really want to take cs31 and you going bio, then cs31 and chem 20A, but take an easy ge. Do not take eng comp 3 with it, you’ll be doing essays and programming project…(personal experience… no sleep)

I actually don’t recommend you taking CS31 if you don’t have any prior C++ experience. Why? Because most if not all of the Comp Sci and CSE (Computer Science & Engineering) majors will be taking it, and most of them do have prior C++ experience, so you’ll be competing with these people.
Taking it during Spring is ideal if you never have C++ experience before since all of the CS and CSE people are usually finished with CS31 by that time.
