Right now I currently have a 3.0 flat. I am top 18% in my class without ever taking an AP class. And these are the classes I am planning on taking Next year. I dont want to burn out, but I will if it means getting into Brown.

AP Literature
AP Physics
AP Biology
AP Latin
American Musical Theatre
Advacned Theatre

Independent:
AP Psychology

Online: American Goverment
Pre-Cal (I messed over this year and must re take it)
Economics
Chemistry (Got stuck in it, and bombed. Have to retake the first semester)

If anyone has any major suggestions, in order to maybe cut down on some classes, or some methods I can use…?

To be quite honest with you... a 3.0 without taking any APs (assuming they were offered and other people in your school took them) does not look impressive, and you probably won't be able to get into Brown just by having a great senior year, unless there's some kind of amazing explanation for the 3.0.

Yeah, I had a rough Junior year. Along with alot of problems. Plus I am redeeming myself with the classes that brought me down, over the summer. And that will change the grades, and up my GPA. In al reality, I know if I didnt apply early decision I wouldnt have much of a chance..because of my screw ups. But everyone tells me to have confidence, because Brown is my number one, college ever..

Lakeside eh? If you go to the school I think you do, your chances of getting in will be even smaller with so many people from your school applying to elite schools like Brown. If you attend a different Lakeside than the one in Seattle, ignore what I just wrote.

Actually, this is just a name my friend picked. I go to a very small school where everyone goes to the local college. Although our school is highly competitive, and run by a local family called the Yanceys'. So... in other words, I am stretching the envolope, but wanting to go to Brown. Only one kid from our school is going to an Ivy League..(other than I..haha), and that is my friend, who picked this name.

And to reply to my 3.0...well..it is that unweighted, and our school goes by weighted.. Plus there are alot of people in my year. About 500, and only about 200 actually try. My stats were ruined because of family issues. But all in all, with me going back over, and retaking my screw classes, I think I will be fine early decision.

Where's your GPA compared to the 200 people who "actually try"? If you're in the top 18% of 500, that ranks you at about 90 out of 200 who "try"... not bad, but not super-impressive.

Well I have never taken an AP class. And I am racking up on alot next year. Only because they have taken 3-4, and AP classes rank higher. It is weird, but I know that one I take my next year classes, my class ranking will go up 40 places...or maybe more. I know I screwed over, but I consulted people. Haha..but in al reality, i was stupid ....

What was your friends unweighted and weighted GPA? What Ivy did he get in?

I would say you have a very small chance of getting into Brown. Your GPA is low unweighted and likely unweighted as well as I doubt you have much higher than a 3.5 weighted. In all honesty I would say are dreaming to even think you can get in but who knows.

Our school works wierdly. My GPA is low because of two classes....so for me making them up. It is just a matter of determination. But I have factors working on my side. I never thought I could make it into Brown, until last year. So I have been working my but off in order to make it. Pulling myself from a 1.9...isnt hard. I had to work harder, even though I am smart, my work ethic was terrible as a freshman, and sophmore. But I am sure my GPA will hit 4.0 by the time I apply.

Besides I worked out my GPA, and..haha..if I retake Pre-Cal, and Chem Honours. And if I keep my A's in all my classes next year (which I will) I will end with a 4.8..which I think is rather respectable. It is only a few classes dropping me off the marks.

I think only you know how many AP classes you can truly handle and should take them in accordance to how many you can really handle. Yes, I understand the feeling of willing to burn out for Brown. But if you have to spend your senior year being burnt out, is that how you would like to remember your senior year of high school by? Furthermore, applications (assuming that you're applying to more than just Brown) take forever to complete. Be sure to calculate time in for that too.

It looks like you're counting on a strong senior year to get you in. The problem with this scenario and applying ED is that your grades wouldn't be in by the time Brown has to make their decision. You will probably be better off if you waited for you GPA to (hopefully) be higher before you apply to schools, so they can take that into account. The best you could probably hope for if you apply ED is a deferral.

Sometimes, college admissions really just come down to your goddamn luck, and not neccessarily test scores. Good luck with everything next year, lakeside657. I hope you get into Brown. :)

you wont get into brown..even if u retake those classes they will still see the scores...its unfortunate that ur freshman and sophmore year can ruin your chances but its true

Thanks alot..but with our grades comming out earlier..I will have my grades...But, I wont stand a chance without my new grades. With them I have a pretty good chance.. (this is lakeside675)
