So I will be a sophomore next year (business major), and I am trying to plan out my classes, but I don't want to overload myself either semester...and I'm not quite sure which of these classes is harder and which ones aren't as much work.
So I will list all the classes I need to take/plan to take next year, and if you guys could help me organize them by semester into which would be the best combination that'd be great. Obviously I'd take the econs and the accounting classes each per semester, but what about the others?

A201 Financial Accounting (3 cr)
A202 Managerial Accounting (3 cr)
E201 Microeconomics (3 cr)
E202 Macroeconomics (3 cr)
L201 Legal Environment of Business (3 cr)
X201 Technology (3 cr)
X204 Business Communication (3 cr)
E370 Statistical Analysis (3 cr)
S310 Spanish Grammar and Composition (3 cr)
G202 Business and Economic Strategy (2 cr)
???? Marketing in Our World Today (3 cr) (forgot the course number or w/e)

What are you planning on doing this summer? If you don't have anything going on, I would STRONGLY suggest taking some of those classes at a community college (A201, A202, E201, E202, L201).

You can't take E370 until second semester (need to complete E201), same with A202. E202 I don't believe needs to be taken after E201, however E201 is an I-Core prerequisite while E202 isn't.

nm ...............

Ranking these from toughest to easiest, I'd rate them as follows based upon my own son's experience so far:

A201 Financial Accounting (3 cr)--For most people, this is the toughest business course they will take in college.
E370 Statistical Analysis (3 cr)--MaryBeth is getting better, but this is just a tough course
A202 Managerial Accounting (3 cr)
S310 Spanish Grammar and Composition (3 cr)
X201 Technology (3 cr)
L201 Legal Environment of Business (3 cr)--difficulty really depends on who you get for the course (McCrory is toughest, but considered an outstanding teacher)
E202 Macroeconomics (3 cr)
E201 Microeconomics (3 cr)--once again, depends upon the teacher--can be easy, can be tough
X204 Business Communication (3 cr)
???? Marketing in Our World Today (3 cr) (forgot the course number or w/e)
G202 Business and Economic Strategy (2 cr)- this is now called Corporate Social Strategy

Obviously, if you are planning to take all of these, split up the tough ones and the easy ones so you have some in each semester. (although from looking at the list, the only "easy ones" are the last three.

I also strongly suggest you take the two accounting courses in different semesters. Accounting is difficult even when taking only one course and even more difficult if you mix these two in the same semester--you will get confused, I guarantee it.

barren_field,

Have you already taken X220-Career Perspectives? If not, it is also an I-Core prerequisite. It's a 7 weeks, 2 credit course.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Calcruzer that was very helpful! Just curious to know why S310 is so tough? Did your son take S275...if so did he think S310 was considerably more difficult?

And IllinoisMom...yes I am currently enrolled in X220 Career Perspectives.

Try checking if you can take K310 instead of E370... although I think this might be the last year this little "easy loophole" is allowed ;) =D. Class is incredibly easy...do your homework, get an A.

Well, my son was in K310--and he didn't consider it as easy as dammitsam--and he had a 700 SAT Math score and took IB Calculus during his senior year in high school--so go figure. He dropped it earlier this semester and will either take it during the summer, or take E370 next semester.

Maybe the reason it was tough was because his other four courses are Managerial Accounting A202, Survey of Calculus II (M120), Professional Writing Skills (ENG 231), and Cultural Anthropology (E105)--or maybe it's because he ended up with a steady girlfriend this semester (I'm thinking this last thing may be the primary cause).

re: S310,

My son took S275 in the fall and is currently in S310. He says that while both are taught in Spanish, S275 is more about Spanish-speaking countries and their respective cultures, with a student's grammar and speaking skill not being as important. S310, on the other hand, is all about learning how to speak the language correctly. S310 is definitely more challenging.

Well what teacher did he have? The grading was very trivial. I got a 81 on the last exam and at least 1/2 of the points missed was due to "incorrect notation" aka putting u instead of X for mean. Very, very irrelevant grading.

Still for playing hookie 75% of the time, a B+/A- aint too shabby...considering the GPA boost classes I am taking this year :) ... voice / self defense / fencing / G202 / X220

Thanks so much guys...what is the course name for K310? And what dept is it in? I will def ask my advisor about it. Also...is it 3 credits?

And thanks IllinoisMom...I think I will still take 310 next year just because Spanish is one of my stronger points. I'm in 275 right now and find that I am better at grammar and stuff vs. the history/memorizing facts...so maybe I will be better at 310 than 275.

The course name is MATH K310 Statistical Techniques--and it is 3 credits. There are two different professors teaching it in the Fall Semester.
