I have a few questions concerning my senior year class schedueling. I am looking to apply to rather competative schools so I want to know what would look best on my applications.

Right now I am looking to take 5 AP courses, but doing that will not allow me much flexibility with my other classes, I will only have one period left after my APs. Problem is I started taking French 1 this year and do not know if because of this I will be able to take French 2. I already took and completed my needed years of Spanish so I have a proper amount of foreign language credits. I am worried that if I take one year of French though and then drop it it will look bad with colleges for not finishing it. I am also worried because I have taken 4 sciences but not chemistry or physics.

My question is, do you think I should care more about taking Franch 2 or Physics or stick with my 5 APs and see whatever fits. Of course I am really hoping one of the 2 will fit but I just don't know and want opinions.

Take physics! As I’ve told other people here, you MUST take physics. I am applying to competitive business schools in the Big Ten, and if you do not take physics, you might be a bit screwed. I was looking to not take any science senior year (since I will major in finance), but I still have too. With my 2 AP classes & one university course in spanish, and honors economics, I didn’t have room for AP Physics, but take it!

Just keep in mind that your college may revoke your application if you drop several of your AP/Honors classes second semester! I’m not sure because you did not state what schools you plan on applying to but my colleges required chemistry and some even required physics. I would check into that!

Taking the second language at the 1/2 level is not a big help in your application. If it were at a level 4/AP it would be a different story. You have your required (level 4? or AP?) of Spanish and if so you meet that core requirement. If your school offers AP Spanish and/or AP Spanish literature and you’ve taken neither, taking that in place of an elective would help your application and (in the case of AP) would facilitate having you place out of language requirements at college.

Not having taken chemistry and physics is not a good situation in applying to very selective colleges. They are looking for lab science courses – a core subject area. Perhaps your 4 years of science are mostly biology, and it may be convincing that you’ve taken enough lab science. But if not, take one (and perhaps both) chemistry and physics. Whether it is at the AP level or not is secondary. But if you have that option it would be helpful to see your full course schedule since freshman year, especially as regard math and the sciences, in order to make a recommendation.

11th grade
-anatomy
-pre calc
-Ap Us History
-english 11 honors
-religion 11
-film study (very upset about this, I wanted to be in modern world history instead but did not fit into my scheduel)
-gym
-french 1

My DREAM 12th grade would be
-AP Calc
-AP English
-AP Economics
-AP Government
-AP World
-religion 12
-gym
-physics

So do you think if I have to drop one of the AP histories next year for Physics it will be worth it? And it will not look bad if I took French for a year then gave it up?

I am looking at schools like BC, Villanova, etc.
