Classes for Senior Year

This year, my school has allowed me (through a selection process) to take a class at a nearby university. This class, though, will interfere with my high school schedule. It will only allow me to take 5 classes at my high school this year (4 of which will be AP). Now my question is will this reflect poorly on my transcript if I only take 6 (including my college class) classes during my senior year. The reason I ask this is because I have always taken the max amount of courses that I am allowed to take, 7. I don't want colleges to think I am trying to take it easy during my senior year because I intend to apply to some very prestigious universities (Princeton and Amherst are my top schools).

Another piece of information, the class I will take is a sociology class. It's something that I have been interested in but never got the opportunity to pursue fully. I really like social sciences and I believe that I will pursue a degree in that field when I go to college.

Thank you for your time.

A little bit of advice would be helpful.

I think if you explain it a little when you apply it should be fine. One of the major things I think it would affect would be your class rank, but other than that, it probably looks like an open period. Plus it’ll be good to jump into something that you’re interested in so that you can see if you really want to pursue it.

4 APs and a college class is not taking it easy… Now go relax and take it easy while you still can!

Thank you for your advice. I’m not too worried about class rank. My school doesn’t rank and I’m currently already top 10 (from unofficial data) so I doubt it will matter. Looks like I will use that additional info part of the common app! Also, 4 AP’s is taking it easy compared to how competitive the kids at my school are but I do look forward to being able to go home early. I think I might take a nap!
