So this summer I will have finished my first year at college, and I know it's important to do something valuable this coming summer. I already made the decision that it's too soon to get involved in an internship (I'm in an engineering school, so I was recommended to wait for at least next year before considering that), and so my next thought would be to get a good job or something. Unfortunately for me, by the time summer comes along, my family will have moved from my home in New Jersey to a new home near West Palm Beach, Florida. I recognize it'll be difficult to get a job that's at all meaningful, and so I thought perhaps I could try and take some classes this summer and make some good use out of it. I did a quick collegeboard search for nearby schools and didn't see anything where I could find good summer classes to take or any community colleges like that. Then I thought maybe something online? So my question is basically, is there anywhere I can look for advice in finding good online classes I can get credit for back at school (I got to UVA, if that matters), or just any sort of information on taking classes during the summer? Thanks in advance for any help!

I'd recommend taking some time to enjoy your new location.

If you do take classes, take them online (most communities colleges offer academic, as well as personal enrichment classes online).

That said, it wouldn't hurt to take on a job instead. While the work you do may not be relevant to your future career, any job experience is good job experience. And having the extra money would probably be nice. Working at a beach side restaurant, life guarding, or being a camp counselor would be a good way to show work ethic on your resume, as well as save up some money for the school year.

Or you could just do something fun - like learning a new water sport.
