I am planning to take a fifth year at a community college because there are some math classes I want to take, but will not be able to at my current university (cost, unit cap).

Will having these community college classes on my transcript in any way hurt my application (excluding getting bad grades of course)? Basically, does the simple fact that it's a community college class make it a detractor?

From what I gather, as long as your 4-year university GPA (esp. the science and math–BCPM–GPA there) is adequately high (say, 3.5-3.6+) and you’ve taken all your pre-reqs (and maybe a few upper division courses in addition to those), taking a few CC classes shouldn’t really hurt you. The concern would be if you took some of your pre-reqs at the CC or if you seemed to be trying to pad your BCPM with easy classes. On that second point, then, you should be sure the classes you take at the CC don’t look like they’re simply there to pad your BCPM.
