Classes full!

Ahh, all of the classes I wanted to take for next quarter are filled up, even the waitlists! And my second pass doesn't start until Sunday evening :( What should I do? Should I just sign up for a random class just in case, but hope that I can get into my other classes next quarter? Anyone else having this problem?

What year are you?
Major?
Which requirements have you filled?
Which classes do you need?
How many units do you have? What's the differential? How many more units would you need after satisfying your major's requirements?
When do you expect to graduate?
Your desired classes - are they seminars? Which ones are they? If seminars, email the professor or instructor about PTE#'s.

I'm a first-year, class of 2011...Anthro major!
I need to take Anthro 7 or 9 for my major. But I used my priority pass to get my Chem and Math classes. I'm taking 14 units now, planning to take 18 units next quarter if all goes well.

anthro 7 still has some waitlisted spots. if you can get on one, take it, because anyone on the waitlist WILL get in (i took it last year with the same prof). also, people do drop.
there are plenty of GE's still open, and it never hurts to get them over with. try using the search function to see which of them are available.
good luck!

I'm not sure if there will still be waitlisted spots available by the time my enrollment comes around...but I'll definitely be looking for some alternatives now.

Do majors ever get any preference over non-majors in these types of courses (since we need it) when the class is full?

if you petition the professor, i've heard they'll try to let students who need the class (graduating seniors, and i guess majors) in more than others? in my experience the TA's were more willing to hand out PTEs to those who SHOW UP to a section. my anthro TA would have handed out a PTE to someone not even on the waitlist, who showed up, over someone on the waitlist who didn't come to discussion.

if classes are popular and are required for majors, sometimes they'll disallow things like priority pass, and restrict first pass to majors/premajors only (such as psych 100B, in my case). other than that... that's about the gamut of preference xD

hmm... a few waitlisted spots remain. even if you can only get the last one, take it. you will be let in, provided you show up to the first discussion and talk to your TA. if you really want this class and can't get on the waitlist, sign up for something else, SHOW UP to some anthro discussions, explain your situation, and try to get in over waitlisted people who don't show!

Thank you very much for your help :) I'll definitely try to petition the professor. Can I do this before classes start, or will I have to wait until the first day of classes to talk to the professor?

I ended up signing up for a waitlisted English 5 class (waitlist #10, class of 18 people, ouch)...I can't really take any other GEs since I will have my major/pre-med classes overlap most of them. Hopefully everything will work out...I'm starting to stress!

Perhaps a foreign languge class if you need it (3 quarters)?

lovelyday, i suggest that you start by attending the first anthro lecture, and then attending the first anthro discussions you can. talk to the TAs and see if they will give you a PTE.
if johnson-grant is still TAing, try to find her. first name was ilena. she was one of the TAs who preferred people needing the class (not on waitlist) over waitlisted no-shows.
you can also email the professor, and he should tell you the likelihood of getting in and what you should do (but i don't think manson controls the PTEs for this class).

I tried enrolling in the English 10A class but it says I have not fulfilled the requisite which is English comp 3.. I fulfilled that with my AP score. What should I do?

PS I know I saw this asked before somewhere but I couldnt find it, sorry!

murphymurphymurphymurphy.

just a guess

I think you should go to English Department office first.

lol.. nvm.. stupid mistake on my part.. the prereqssaid english comp 3 or 3H, 4W, and something else, and I msitook what it said >< Thanks

Oh yay, I actually just got into the waitlist for Anthro 9 since someone dropped. That will hopefully give me a better chance of getting in...thank you everyone for all of your help!
