Hey,

There is this RUSS-001-601 class that meets on MW 6:30 -9 PM. Is it offered by CGS? Course Search says "Course is available to Freshmen and Upperclassmen". But I think I read somewhere that I need permission to take classes in CGS...?! Which one is true? And how are my chances to get into this class in general?

By the way, how reliable is Course Search? In the pamphlet about the Writing Seminars, there are only two sections for the seminar that I'm interested in (WRIT011)...in Course Search there are two more sections but both of them don't even have an instructor listed...?!

generally you can register for cgs classes without needing any special permission (unless it's noted on the course description)

course search pulls from the registrar database, which is the most accurate / up-to-date information on class availabilty. the pamphlet may have been accurate at the time of its printing, but things probably changed since then.

I completed some of my foreign language requirement with a CGS course. No extra permission needed.

Some departments require permission or don't allow non-CGS students to register. For example, most biology courses are only available to CGS students. And for math classes you need to show that every College section of the class conflicts with your schedule. It'll say something on the registrar website.

theoneo, are the foreign languages classes in CGS good?
Do you learn less than in a class offered by SAS?

I really want to learn the language, not just fulfill a requirement

cgs is a part of sas

they're just fine
