Hello,
I’ll be transferring to UCLA this summer for aerospace engineering. I opted to take two summer courses since I couldn’t secure an internship. I’m working out my future schedule now, and it was recommended to me that I take three upper division classes to start off with for my first quarter.
My goals: latin honors(I would be very happy just getting cum laude, 3.631 gpa requirement), finish within two years and a quarter, try to get an internship for 1-2 summers, participate in a student group on campus(like AIAA), and get a job after Summer 2017. If I can’t secure an internship next summer, I will take more engineering classes as offered.
My schedule so far:
Summer 2015 - 2 classes
Fall 2015 - 3 classes
Winter 2016 - 4 classes
Spring 2016 - 4 classes
Summer 2016 - Internship or more classes
Fall 2016 - 4 classes
Winter 2017 - 4 classes
Spring 2017 - 4 classes
Summer 2017 - Internship or more classes if possible
—Hopefully Graduation—
Fall 2017 - 1 or 2 classes
My questions are: Does this seem doable with my goals? Is it possible to take 5 engineering courses(20 quarter units) and maintain a decent gpa? I was thinking that I might want to take five if I manage to secure an internship for Summer 2016 and have to take more than 2 classes in Fall 2017. This is because I didn’t think I could manage a job or they wouldn’t quite want me on board if I was taking 3 or more classes that quarter.
Oh, and I currently have a 4.0 gpa coming from Santa Monica College.
Thank you!
Tim
