classes needed for major offered once a year

do we need to sign up for such classes on the first pass? for example, my civil 103 class is only offered in spring and we need that class to go on to take more upperdivs next year, so if i miss this course i would have to spend at least 1 more year in school, so do you think the professor will be nice enough to let everyone that needs the class in? or will they just screw people over?

do you have another class that would fill up fast? if not, then obviously sign up for civil 103 first. all things considered, its more important to be able to advance in your major than to get some popular elective or something.

its probably best to ask your departmental counselor how they handle it when that class gets full. if the class is limited to students in your major only, then they should have allotted enough space for everyone to enroll even in 2nd pass. (of course, you probably wont get your desired discussion section.)

If it does get filled up, this will be one of those rare occasions where the 6th floor boelter counselors can help you out.

well there is only 1 section of discussion so i don’t really have to worry about that, i don’t think there is any other major that would need it so hopefully its ok, since i need to sign up for math 33b and mech eng 103 which seem to fill up a bit faster than civil 103…

I looked up the class and it showed that for

Spring 2007: #En: 71; EnCp: 71; WLCp: 10
Spring 2008: #En: 71; EnCp: 60; WLCp: 24

It looks like they enroll everyone off of the waitlist so no one has a problem with taking that class.
