Classes not to miss at UVA

haha well its 10x more than what my mom does, dude has it good.

Which professor is in the environmental science department that all of the scientists disagree with? The admissions officer mentioned his name during the information session but I cannot remember what it was.

Sabato's class is SO overrated...unless you just love listening to someone talk about himself for 3 hours a week. I learned absolutely nothing although yes, the guest speakers were good (but if you know when they're coming, you can always sneak in and watch anyway).

If you're not the best at science but need to meet a requirement, EVSC 120 (taught by Thomas Smith) is the easiest class in the world. No need to buy the book or even take notes, just go to class and listen and you're set with an easy A. GO TO CLASS

If you're a politics major, take PLIR 306 (Military Force in IR) with Prof. Copeland and PLPT 302 (Modern Political Theory) with Professor Bird- my favorite lecturer at UVA so far! I also really liked PLCP 341, Comparative Politics of the Middle East, with Professor Quandt.

When it comes down to it, just use ratemyprofessor.com or http://www.student.virginia.edu/~class10/evaluations/

Anybody know about EVSC 488 Planetary Geology? Seems like an interesting class.

sigma and all other to be first year students,

i don't recommend you take upper level classes where the vast majority of students will be 3rd and 4th years. while the course load may or may not be really difficult, most times you're compared against the rest of the students in the class. why go up against a bunch of 3rd and 4th year EvSci majors your first semester?

lol. I meant in general, not first year.

anyone got recommendations as to which professor's class is one should reccomend in the economics, accounting and maths at the undergrad level.
i'd like to know it in terms of
a) professors whose classes are easy to score in (to aviod these)
b) professors whose classes are difficult to score in
c) prof. whose classes are interesting
d) prof. whose classes are boring

thanks!

sigma -- 488 is taught by alan howard, and i might be terrible saying this, but kinda a bore. i'm an envisci major so if you have any questions on those classes or the major, feel free to PM me.

and I agree Fuentes' EVSC350 is interesting; Jose is a really sweet guy even though i didn't really like the class, but it is a requirement for the major.

I am one of the few that thought elzinga's econ201 was a dreadful waste of my time. i took ap econ in highschool and we covered more in that class than 201 and 202 (along with covering things that weren't even mentioned in 301 and 302). Elzinga is a great teacher if you've never had any econ experience, but if you did have econ in highschool and got 4s on the AP, then just be expecting complete review.

And I agree sticking to 100s and 200s your first semester -- but do choose stuff towards your major. A lot of upper classes will pit you against people who have nearly finished their majors so are more comfortable in the material, plus a lot of 300s and 400s have prereqs. If you want to take a 300 level class, instead take the prereq for it and see how you like it and how you do. you're here for 4 years, you'll have time to take what you want.

and on that related note- i can't believe i'm a 4th year now. i don't want to only have another year here...
