hey guys, so I'm thinking (for the nth time again) about doing CS major w/ premed intentions. The chief problem would be fitting in all the classes because the major and the med req. don't intersect much. So i'm thinking taking some classes over summer if that's a possiblity. Which classes are usually offered over summer? I'm thinking about taking chem1a, 3a, over ONE summer if possible.

are most classes (lower level) availalbe over summer? such as: physics 7a,b,c, math 53/54, chem 1a,3a,3b, mcb 102(?) CS 61a/b/c?

Check this:

[Home Page - Online Schedule Of Classes](http://schedule.berkeley.edu/)

You can just check the schedule to see what’s available, but a lot of these classes have prereqs that you usually can’t take concurrently, so doing it all in one summer might not be possible. For example, I’m pretty sure (tho I might be wrong on this) that you need to take chem 1A before chem 3A.

Correct on the requirement for at least a C- in Chem 1A (or a 4-5 on the Chem AP test). If you have the AP score already on record with Cal, could work.

If your pre-med you can’t skip 1A and I’m pretty sure you can’t take them at the same time.

CS/pre-med is not recommended.

The Berkeley CS department is notorious for its [harsh grading](http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/Policies/ugrad.grading.shtml), and you’ll need the best grades possible for med school admissions.

EDIT: I’ve never heard of a CS/EECS major who’s successfully gone down the pre-med route. One of my classmates was originally interested, but dropped his pre-med intentions after Chem 3A in his second year. He did well in the class, but managing that along with core CS classes had become too much to handle for him. CS is simply too demanding: you’ll be doing massive all-night coding projects very frequently, and they leave you little time for anything else (even other academic endeavors.)

how does berkeley summer school work? I’m not acquainted at all. I’m thinking there’s several sessions so I could take chem 1 first and then chem 3a, but all the same summer.

how long typically are classes? And yea…just any insight on how summer classes work would help.

@Student, thanks, I know it’ll be hard but I’m just testing the waters and, most importantly, see if I can even take all the required classes.

Do some googling.

Most classes are in session already, unless you mean for next summer?
