How many classes do CAS students usually take per semester? 4, 5, 6?

Any current students who might be able to answer this? :)

Anybody!? Just curious...

Can somebody please answer this? I don't mean to be annoying :)

I'd also really appreciate it if a current student could answer this

Hey, I'm in stern but nobody else posted so....

tuition covers anywhere from 12 to 18 credits, and you need an average of 16 credits to graduate. Most classes are 3 or 4 credits, a few electives and requirements are 2 credits, and a few required classes are 6(for Stern atleast). Generally you take about 4-5 classes, but it depends on the credits of classes which depends heavily on your school/major/class year. Also some people pay extra and do 20 credits if they want to graduate early. I've done 4 classes every semester, although sometimes its added up to more or less than 16 credits.

You will be in school very little compared to high school. Generally a four credit class is hour and 15 minutes twice a week, and a 50 or 75 minute recitation once a week. As you progress, less and less classes have recitations (I'm not in CAS so im not exactly sure how many classes have recitations, also some of the science classes might have labs which im not sure how they work).

Someone just pm'ed me about consequences of taking one less class first semester. Class pick time is based on credits. If you take less classes you will have a worse pick time in subsequent semester , meaning you may not be able to get the classes and times you want. For this reason, you should transfer your AP credits ASAP. However, once you apply AP credits, you cant take them back...which means you can take less electives before getting to 128 credits.

In the Stern bulletin it says that AP credit can be applied towards a natural science in which case a student would take macro. What if I have the AP science score of a 5 but never took the prerequisite of Cal 1? What would happen in that case?

you dont have to follow there recommended schedule you can take other requirements or electives. you'd just take wte, calc 1, conwest, world cultures for example
