Classes Question

Okay, So I posted this on UCSB Facebook thing, but I'll post it here too, just cause I'm so confused...sorry for being a noob...

I was searching the courses I need to sign up for, but what i'm noticing is on a few of the classes I need it has lets say mon/wed 10am-12:30 but it's full and after that I see the same class, open, but it's like 50min long and meets only on mon...can someone clarify this for me....is it the same or what, i'm confused :c
Please and Thank You

There are lectures, and there are sections. Lectures are held by the professor, and are usually very large. Sections are usually led by TAs (graduate students) and are much smaller, allowing for discussions and questions. The first one listed is the lecture, and the second is the section You will notice that all of those that are listed second are indented. To sign up for a class with a section, there must be both room within the lecture and within the section.

The first class listed is the lecture, usually 2-3 times per week, and the shorter (50 minute) classes are the discussion sections (usually lead by a graduate student, where you sit in a smaller group, usually 20-25 people, and go over lecture material, ask questions, review for exams, etc.). Most courses have both. To enroll in the class you click “Add” next to the discussion section you want; that enrolls you in both the section as well as the lecture.

If the lecture is closed/full, you can’t add the class, no matter how many section spaces are open.
