I wish to major in econ, finance, or some other business-related field, and so I'm just wondering if it's a good idea to take business-related class while in high school. My high school offers 4+ business-related classes (finance, accounting, etc), but is it worth replacing an AP such as AP Psych or AP Stats?

Its a great idea..APs are overrated, i mean, sure APs are great, but the core APs like math sciences englishes history/gov and foreign language are the ones that really look good. AP Psych is known as an "easy" AP and wont look as good as many other APs while taking those other classes will help you in the long run and put you a step ahead when you enter college and give you somewhat of an introduction to the career path you wish to take. There's really no reason to take AP Psych unless you arent already taking very many APs in which case you should just so you have some APs.

That's a choice you should make with your counselor, but there are several things to consider.

1) AP Statistics, although some consider it an "easy AP," is nonetheless quite useful. There are relatively few fields that do not use some form of statistics.

2) Top colleges will look to see if you are taking the most difficult courses available.

3) A lot of elective credit earned through IB/AP credit can sometimes allow one to graduate a semester/year early or graduate with a BA/MA.

4) Many people switch their major in college. You may be 100% certain you want to major in econ/finance, but you may well change your mind. College is a time to explore options not available in high school, and many people are surprised to find they love a random course they take.
