Classes taught by professors or TAs?

Are most classes at UVA (specifically college of arts and sciences) taught my first rate research faculty / professorts? Or are they also taught by TAs? Thanks..

My daughter never had a class taught by a TA. If she had a large lecture there was a discussion group led by a TA, but never the class itself.

And said discussion sections taught by TAs will be found at just about every research University, up to and including Harvard.

Sometimes, departments will allow graduate students who are close to getting their Ph.D. to teach a small course of their own design. These can actually be quite fun and interesting.

My TAs in stanford were quite rubbish.

I think the ENWR classes are taught by TA's , as are many labs and some lower level spanish courses (where there are many sections, there might be a few TA's) . My enwr TA (who teaches the class) is insanely awsome.

As for TA's of classes for leading discussions, my experience is mainly with math/science ta's, and i find that some are good and others are bad, and there is no way to tell. All are brilliant, but some are better at engaging the class than others.

Daughter had AP credit for ENWR & the language requirement. You are right she did have TA's for labs, but isn't there was a prof associated with those as well?

what's "ENRW"?

ENWR are the writing classes. EG: Advanced Academic writing, Poetry Writing, etc, are all ENWR.

If you score above a certain score on your writing SAT II (maybe they will change it to SAT I now that it has the essay, i don't know), you can exempt out of your first writing requirement, which means that you don't ever have to take an ENWR class. (I made my second writing requirement through an ecology lab).

If you score below that number (730 comes to mind, or if you haven't taken an english AP exam and scored high), then you'll have to take a writing class. Since most of the ppl here are high speed low drag, if you have to take a class, it will be ENWR 110. There are lots of sections about many different subjects. I am in "Children's Fantasy", and it's awsome.
