you should call the school immediately and ask them about it and ask to be put in the orientation group for MEs

page 52 has the schedule for ME freshman this year. idk if it will the same for next year
http://engineering.ucsb.edu/current_undergraduates/pdf/09-10Announce.pdf

i dont think orientation registration is open yet is it? and how many quarters are in each thing liek fall winter spring?

each what thing

each trimester

each year is composed of 3 quarters: fall, winter, and spring
each quarter is 10 weeks long

you can choose to take summer school if you want/need to
there are no trimesters

I think you should skip all the technical classes and take all general education. It is vital that you cover all your other subjects first and not ones related to Mech Eng atm. This is because you will show them you are ready for the Mechanical Engineering workload when you already have your general ed covered!!!

NO.

To switch to engineering you need a MAJOR GPA of like >3.0 in a specific list of classes.
how can you possibly even petition for a change of major to ME if you only take GE…(there are other qualifications like high overall GPA, see [Changing Majors | UCSB College of Engineering](http://engineering.ucsb.edu/current_undergraduates/advising_services/changing_majors/)

If you look at the page linked in the 2nd comment you will see that GEs are fulfilled slowly. Like one per quarter in your Junior and Senior years…
