classes to take?! online??

Currently junior in high school. good track record: only received 1 B my freshman year in Spanish 3. Besides that I have received straight As in all my subjects including ap bio, world, seminar, and human geo. This year I’m taking AP enviro, push, ap lang, ap research and my least favorite ap calc. I sit at class rank 7 with an UW gap of 3.93. Anyway…im struggling in ap calc AB and it might tank my gpa since my teacher is god awful. I want to drop the course and take it online through FLVS however will colleges know that it is much easier online? Also next year I plan on taking ap stats, ap micro/macro, ap gov and ap lit. Is it a mistake not taking AP calc BC and also not taking another AP science? looking to be a business major at Berkeley, UT austin, northwestern or upenn. Please let me know opinions!

It is not necessarily easier online.

Have you exhausted both your teacher and yourself by haunting your teacher for assistance with the material and then acting on their advice? Have you utilized any tutoring available from students who previously took the class and now are being successful in BC? Have you worn your eyeballs out watching the KhanAcademy and PatrickJMT viedos online? Have you done every single problem in the book over and over again until you have understood each of them?

Calculus is not easy. It is a college freshman level class that has been increasingly offered to high school students. You should not be surprised at all that you are finding it challenging given that you are taking it a full two years sooner than most people in your parents generation would have.

Just because it’s online definitely doesn’t make it easier. Better? Maybe. It all depends on you and your work ethic, because you’ll have to be more motivated to complete the course by FLVS standards. Definitely take happymomof1’s questions into consideration, but you can also do research on how good FLVS’s course is based on others experiences. I haven’t taken the class but I’ve taken a lot of FLVS classes and several FLVS APs. Teachers are very helpful and offer live lessons in the evening to help you better understand, but it all depends on your schedule and work ethic! Wish you well!
