What classes do colleges like to see on your transcript?
Do they prefer a higher GPA (weighted) in easier classes or a slightly lower GPA in harder courses (honors/AP/IB)?

I am an incoming Freshman, and am debating whether to take honors history or not. I'm afraid the workload may be to heavy with honors history, as I am taking all other honors classes.

Colleges like to see it when students push and challenge themselves. If you really don't think you can handle the class, don't take it. Talk to the teacher or students who have taken the class before and get a feel for what the workload is. Good luck!

i suggest taking honors. Some (high) schools weight it more in the HPA meaning that your ranking will be higher. Honors will also help you prepare for the workload of AP. AP has by ar more work than honors, but will still help. Honors shouldn't be a problem

id say take honors. :D

Take it! I had what I thought to be a horrendous global teacher last year in honors-but she ended up teaching me tons about writing essays, preparing notes, and outlines.

Honors classes aren't very hard at all. Besides, history is easy enough to learn.

Take the class if it sounds like it's got a good teacher. Find out what people say about him/her. The teacher can make or break an honors class.

And realize that many colleges do not focus very much on your freshman year. It's good to take lots of honors classes, but honors history/regular history won't make all that much difference a few years down the road when adcoms are looking at your application. :)

My high school doesn't factor in freshman year when calculating GPA for rankings, if you're worried about that. Check to see what your school does.

"What classes do colleges like to see?" I am afraid we shall never know.
