hi everyone, i'm in my senior year at a pretty competitive private hs. i have a question: i have gotten straight a's for all of high school, but i am having a ton of trouble in my ap physics b class, and would probably get a b or veeeeeeeeeery low a (almost no chance of this happening by the end of first quarter, tho, and i'm applying early action to stanford). i was wondering if you all thought it would be better to take honors physics in conjunction with AP environmental or just stick it out in ap physics (i'm not a science person- i'm looking into linguistics or international relations). thanks!

To me, it depends on what your motivation for dropping it is. Is it because the class is too hard, you're not interested in it, or you strongly dislike the class? Or is it because of your fear of not getting an "A?" If it the former, then I would advise you to drop it, if it is the latter, get a grip and realize one bad grade isn't going to kill you (a B isn't a bad grade by any means though).

I personally started in AP Physics and was absolutely miserable, so I dropped it. Then again, I'm not looking to go to Stanford. Stanford is a highly competitive school, and if you want to go to that kind of school, you will have to make sacrifices. I think this is a good time to evaluate whether you will push yourself to the limit academically or try to acheive a balance.

please dont continue taking physics. drop it please. you will be miserable and it will drive you crazy. Drop it and be done with it.

backfire: just because the OP is going to get a high B or a low A doesn't mean it's a miserable experience. OP just said it's really tough. And he/she wants to go to Stanford. I'd recommend sticking it out and not worrying about the grade (I got only Bs in Chem hon yet was accepted to all my Ivies despite stating that I intended to major in science).
