I was just wondering, do they save some spots in those 'hot' classes (eg. Econ 101, Honors intro to Psychology..etc.) for international students? Because I looked at the availability for some of the courses on the on-line course guide and it seems like by the time International Orientation rolls around, all the interesting classes will be filled. Also, I am in the Honors program and it seems like all the intriguing Honor courses will be gone by the time I get there to register..what kind of bs is this? I don't know why UM is screwing over international students like this...don't we play enough tuition?! I am just afraid I might have to take a class that I have zero interest in just to fill credits...which would be a complete waste of a term and money.

They list the class capacity at X-20, and then change the class capacity to X at the beginning of international orientation?

Huh? I'm sorry I didn't understand your post..

They can just go and arbitrarily change the class size whenever they want. They just make the number of available seats larger before international orientation.

Oh okay that is good to know, thanks.

Yeah, in most of the large lectures and classes (Econ 101, Math 115)you will find spaces available for international students. The majority of the smaller classes and seminars will be filled up, although a few do remain open.

Nevertheless, in the add drop period during the first two weeks of the term if you aggressively pursue your classes you should be able to get them. By that I mean hawking Wolverine Acess for empty seats because students drop seats all the time, emailing the professors of smaller classes and asking them if there's space for another student etc etc. I'm international myself and, during my first semester, I ended up with quite an excellent schedule with Fridays off and everything.
