Classic Choices down through the ages.

Seems like there are a lot of people requesting advice on choices that must be classics by now. No need to keep making new threads with new posts every year. These matchups warrant their own permanent threads. I'm talking about

BU vs. NYU
Michigan vs. Northwestern

BC vs. Notre Dame
UCLA vs. Berkeley
Berkeley vs. Stanford
UCLA vs. USC
Amherst vs. Williams
Georgetown vs. George Washington

CMU vs. CWRU
Conn.College vs. Trinity (Conn)
DePaul vs. Loyola (IL)
MIT vs. CalTech
Toronto vs. McGill

BU vs. NYU - NYU

I've seen some people having a hard time deciding between Brown and similarly ranked non-Ivy schools, like Northwestern (since Brown is dead last among Ivies in US News rankings).

I'm sure there are more classic matchups that we could once and for all clear up. Here are some NON-classic decisions from the last few days which make you wonder what the he11 they were thinking to get to a position where these were the choices:

Berkeley vs. Dartmouth (2 peas in a pod, those 2)

Wake Forest vs. Carnegie Mellon (so similar, I always get them confused)

UCLA vs. Lafayette/Lehigh/Holy Cross (TONS of overlap here)

And my favorite...

Brandeis vs. Boston College

bob-

why do i suck?

Tour Guide I love your sarcasm (I was actually scared for a few seconds). :)

how about chicago vs. penn vs. jhu??

Scared of what? And why does dusk suck?

Penn
JHU
Chicago.

Yeah, the Penn/JHU/Chicago decision is a tough one. Considering the neighborhoods they are all in, I think the stats on "body counts" need to be considered as much as Alumni Giving %. In fact I heard US News is going to have "Annual # of Homicides Within 2-mile Radius of Campus" as one of their ranking categories in the next Top Colleges issue. Look for BYU and Yale to virtually swap positions.

Are you seriously comparing "Wake Forest vs. Carnegie Mellon (so similar, I always get them confused)

UCLA vs. Lafayette/Lehigh/Holy Cross (TONS of overlap here)"

I'M not comparing the pairs mentioned in Post #7...I'm saying that in threads these last few days those are some of the bizarre choices that high school students have actually asked for help in making. My question is how in the world would a person be so completely unsure of what he/she wanted out of college that he/she would have a tough time picking between such polar opposites as Berkeley and Dartmouth, BC and Brandeis, Wake and CMU, etc.

Ah yes..... whew...

I find it somewhat saddening to see that so many applicants know close to NOTHING about the colleges they apply to. Not only that but they also rely on opinions rather than facts. It took me only a few seconds to pull up avg salaries and info that is easily available to the general public. It takes like 10 minutes to research a school that you will likely be spending 4 years of your life at. Just do it :)

I like the guy from New York state who was thinking of going to Indiana University and he made a post asking how long it took to get from New York to Indiana.
