Classic East/ Classic West Concerts

Did anybody go to either concert in LA or NYC? The lineup and format was the same - Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, and the Eagles on Saturday…Earth, Wind, and Fire, Journey, and Fleetwood Mac on Sunday. Both concerts were in large stadiums.

I loved the music and felt it had something for everyone…hard rock, long guitar and other instrument solos, country rock, jazz, soul, and good food and drinks. The food lines were long. The sound quality was good, but the speakers blocked our view of the large screen behind the acts, and we often couldn’t understand what they were saying in between songs. Every band sounded like they did back when I was younger. Fleetwood Mac sort of made up, the new Eagles lineup was great, and there were few glitches. Every group had their own fans. We took the subway and avoided traffic jams.

Wish they would produce CD’s or CD sets. ,

My husband and I attended. Saturday was great, Sunday not so much. Journey was awful. We went inside and walked around to escape the noise. People we spoke to inside and on the subway afterwards thought the same. We bought our tickets early on, when you had to buy both nights. Wish we had waited until later, when you were able to purchase either night. Loved Deacon Frey!

Some of Journey’s tunes were too loud. But their fans went crazy. Earth, Wind, and Fire are great showmen and wish that I sat closer so I could see them. I never followed Fleetwood Mac so their set was very interesting. Most people sitting around us were there for both nights. It gave us a chance to see the 911 Memorial etc.

We went down with friends to the concert in LA. For us, Journey was great but Earth Wind and Fire should fire their sound guy. The bass was turned up past the limitations of the speakers and we could barely hear the melody. They fixed it toward the end. Journey did seem like an odd choice, half a generation behind the other bands. Eagles were our clear favorites and Vince Gill’s voice is a fine stand-in for Glen Frey’s.

Logistics at Dodger Stadium were good including parking and food. Bathrooms between sets were bad out in gen pop, no issues in our gated neighborhood. We are hoping for a DVD set to come out; it was one of the most fun concerts I have ever attended.

My biggest surprise was just how good these old musicians still are. I guess I was ready for a bunch of dottering and wavering and forgetting of lyrics. We were also surprised by the quantity of pot smoked. We are used to it in WA but were not expecting it in CA.

It’s still illegal in NY. Yes, I also thought the bands played very well and must have rehearsed quite a bit. My guess is each band made a million per show. Police were everywhere in NYC, both inside the stadium and outside. There was not much for them to do. I’d buy a DVD or CD too.

It was very hot in the sun in LA, especially Saturday, and a number of people had to be carted out. The first person we saw drop was during the first Doobie Brothers song. I did not see any issues with police at all.

Right field is the sun field at Citi Field. Nice breeze both nights and no rain. A bad storm just missed New York.
