Classic "What Are My Chances" Questions

Hello!
I’m a Junior and too be honest, my GPA isn’t too high. I like learning, but I’ve never been the best test taker.
I was wondering if you guys could take a look at my stats and colleges could possibly accept me.

Education:
Unweighted GPA: 3.55
Weighted GPA: 4.15
SAT: ~2100 (I haven’t taken it yet. But I get a 2100 average on numerous practice tests)
Subject SAT II Math: 700 (going to take the biology and world history subjects SAT as well)
AP Classes Taken/Currently Taking: AP US History, AP NSL, AP Environmental Science, AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, and AP World. Plan to take 3 more senior year.
3 College Credits in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland through a Summer Program(YSP)

Volunteering:
Student Volunteer at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital (Intermediate Care)
Junior Volunteer at a Nursing Home (Physical Therapy)

Extracurricular:

  • Assistant Karate Instructor at Zen Karate Academy/JSKA Washington DC. Considered the youngest licensed instructor in the nation in my affiliated organization, the Japanese Shotokan Karate Association.
  • Karate Competitor, represented the US in the JSKA World Karate Championship in Cancun. (Also many smaller regional and state karate tournaments won. Practicing since 3 years old, so I have about 13 years of experience.)
  • Founding President of Kinesiology Club at my school (inspired from summer program)
  • Founding member of South Asian Student Association
  • National Honor Society
  • Member of school’s Science Bowl Team
  • Member of school’s Debate Team (National Forensics League Membership)
  • Varsity Tennis 3 Years. Possibly Captain my senior year.

Internships:

  • Internship with nonprofit company, The Shikuri Project, which work to help the Sickle Cell Anemia problem in Kenya. Helped with Pharmaceutical Research.
  • Summer internship with the FDA in the Oncology department.

Anyways, these are my statistics. I want to major in biology, or some science if I change my mind.

Colleges I’m interested in:

University of Maryland, Baltimore County
Virginia Commonwealth University
University of Maryland. College Park
Boston University
Pennstate
Ohio State
Virginia Tech
Rutgers University

Possible Reach Schools:
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
New York University
Johns Hopkins University (yea no chance)

Hopefully, someone can tell me what’re my chances are in getting into any of these schools.
Also maybe someone can recommend me a school that I didn’t mention that might be a better fit for me.

I sincerely thank you

It’s a shame your GPA is so low…the rest of your app is beautiful. Think you have a good chance for all your colleges, but NCCH, NYU and JHU are gunna be long shots.

Thank you for answering. Ah very true. Is it worth applying to those three, or should I drop it all together. Also even Boston University? I thought my GPA would be a little low for that one as well

@drdynamo No, definitely apply. A lot of people on this forum will tell you to not even bother, but I think that’s pretty stupid. You have nothing to lose bar the application fee, so apply to as many schools as you can. Never restrict yourself.

Thank you so much. I’ll take that in mind. Do you any other schools I could possibly into?

I’ve read somewhere that the average gpa of incoming students at NYU was a 3.66 , so it’s not such a reach for you. Combined with your extracurriculars I think you have a fighting chance for NYU. On a less optimistic note, I feel JHU might be a long shot. STILL APPLY, so much of an individuals future is based on chance, there’s still chance for all of your reach schools

Thank You! I will definitely apply, I don’t want to regret not applying. Would I have a better chance if I raised my sat to 2300?
