thanks so much, I can't wait to see everyone there!

don9992, (may I call you don9?) and vicariousparent, we're looking forward to it! I didn't realize that they actually give notes, which really does make it worth while. AND, there are about five shows on Bway worth standing in line at the TKTS booth for, too, so...all around, a winning weekend. Maybe we'll see you there. My son is the impossibly tall baby-faced kid; I'm the breathless, rotund woman trailing in his wake.

I recommend that Juniors participate in this competition.

My D participated last year as a Junior. She first competed at the San Jose (CA) regional, It was her first competion and it was an eye opener. From what to (or not to) wear to making her aware to the caliber of other kids out there. The feed back alone was worth the fee and driving time.
When they added one more Round 1 before the convention in San Francisco, she tried again, and advanced to the semifinals. Just being at the convention site was a great experience.
Attending the conference was also a great opportunity to get info from colleges (that is how we learned about some of the programs she applied for this year), and to talk to other parents and to eavesdrop into conversations from college reps and gained a wealth of info.
And the best part was being able to add "Classical Singer Highschool Competition, Semi Finalist" to the resume.
The competition made her realize that she needed to change voice teachers (she had definetely outgrown hers), and that she needed to enter as many contests/and competitions as possible over the summer to prepare for college auditions. So I would hightly recomend for Juniors to do it.
This year she could not do it, even though she might have had a better chance, college auditions took priority, and the final in NY is the week of graduation.

Wow, that's such a parallel experience, musicmagus. My D first tried out at Temple, but she was coming off the worst week she'd had since starting high school. She came emotionally and physically drained and didn't make the cut. Because of the circumstances (not worth detailing here), my wife and I both thought a do-over would be good for her so we let her try it again, this time with some extra coaching from a different voice teach that had been recommended to my D.

That time she got in and we'll planning to switch to the new teacher as soon as a regular slot opens. Repeating your D's experience of making the Semi round would be pretty sweet so here's hoping.

For those going, they've posted the subjects for the master classes and a lot of them sound pretty cool. See: Classical Singer Community

Okay, folks! Memorial Day weekend is almost here! Good luck to all of you competing this coming weekend!

Back at you! Is your kid going to the Juilliard event?

Yup, she'll be there.

So....how did it go?

D did not get past the second round today but gained enormous experience for future auditions.

Auditioning is always an educational experience - sounds like your singer got alot out of it! Congrats!

My D also didn't make the semi round, but the real goal all along was helping her prepare for college auditions and both she and I think the experience will help her enormously. Not only did she get several sets of feedback for her performances at each level, she also got a lot out of both the master classes and the college recruiting fair. I strongly recommend this program to anyone with a student who's serious about classical singing. I hear the convention will be in Chicago next year.
