Classical Song.. I can't figure out the name!

Alright, so the other day I was in my car listening to the radio and I heard this BEAUTIFUL classical song with a sweet solo cello. It was the most beautiful thing i've ever heard. I was moved.

I grabbed my pencil so I could download or find this song later...

I wrote the following:

1881? 1889? can't see

co nee jay

bach strauss

cello soloist

Does anyone know what the song is? I think the title is pronounced something like co nee jay, except I couldn't hear clearly. This is driving me nuts!

definitely not bach
he's in the baroque period.

Brahms or Tchaikovsky perhaps? I know both composers composed some beautiful pieces, including some for cello, and they fit the time period (you're looking at late Romantic if the years are right)

Well, the most beuatiful cello solo I've ever heard is Faure's "Elegie," and that sounds a little like co-nee-jay.

Here's a CD on amazon with the piece: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000003FTT/qid=1129609122/sr=8-7/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i7_xgl15/002-4799502-6914406?v=glance&s=classical&n=507846. Scroll down until you get to the samples and click on "Elegie." If this isn't the right piece, it's okay because you should hear it anyway!

Max Bruch's Kol Nidrei?
It's solo cello, and it's beautiful.

thanks so much guys!

tkm, that is a beautiful piece "elegie" --thanks i added it to my collection

and thanks a bunch hyperion!

Kol Nidrei - Max Bruch is the song!

THANKS SO MUCH!!

this is such a beautiful song...

Max Bruch is such an awesome composer. He barely wrote anything, but right now I'm playing one of his concertos for violin.
