<p>I was reading the thread about good music to listen to while studying and/or homeworking, and I noticed a good number of people on here who listen to classical music. Since that label encompasses a couple centuries of music, I was wondering if we could talk about which pieces/composers/eras we enjoyed most.</p>
<p>I've got a fairly diverse pallate from my vocal and cello background, but I don't find anything so enthralling as the German and Austrian composers of the late Classical/early Romantic. If I had to name my three favorite pieces, they'd be Symphony No. 4 in E minor by Brahms, String Quartet No. 14 in D minor "Der Tod und das M</p>
<p>If we're using the phrase "classical music" very loosely, then I would have to say Grieg, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff, and Bach if it's played right.</p>
<p>OH.MY.GOD. RAVEL IS MY MAN. Have you guys listened to his Miroirs? God, just unbelievably written. And Gaspard de la nuit is just plain beautifullll.
Mozart piano concertos and symphonies = sex in ears.
Try Schumann piano concertos and Rachmaninoff Etude-tableauxs, combined with Chopin Ballades. God....too many to list. I think I have over 500 classical pieces shoved in my mp3. YAY for geekiness :)</p>
<p>I'm a big fan of Russian composers... Shostakovich, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Kabalevsky to name a few. If you happen to look for Kabalevsky, find Colas Breugnon Overture - it's one of my favorite pieces of all time.</p>
