Classroom Sizes

Hi,

I understand that the faculty to student ratio is outstanding at U of C, but on average, how many students are there in a classroom? Thanks!

On average? It varies. Core classes? Major classes? Upper level? Lower level? I’d say on average, somewhere between 15 and 20, but this number varies greatly based on more specific criteria.

Thanks for the answer! I was thinking in terms of the core classes that I must take as a freshmen undergraduate.

Based on the specific course listings in the time schedules for autumn quarter (which I think are available to everyone and are posted [here](<a href=“http://timeschedules.uchicago.edu/"]here[/url]”>http://timeschedules.uchicago.edu/)), most humanities-related classes seem to be limited at 12 students on average, some up to 20 or so, some smaller. First- and second-year science classes, which are more lecture oriented, hold as many as 50 to 150 or 200 students. These classes are expected, but rare on the whole.
