o you need to bring your own toilet paper and cleaning supplies when you live in a suite (Cawthon) at FSU? Is a vacuum available?

You think they’re going to vacuum? LOL… You’ll be lucky if they sweep it out once a month!

I remember move out days at the dorms with my older two kids. I could not believe the condition of these places! AAAK! But they both survived!

If you get the $5 social fee card which will include borrowing a vaccuum and other things.
Believe it or not students actually vaccuum. My roommates and I vaccuum at least once a week. The carpets & floors are gross why wouldn’t you want to vaccuum them? Especially all the food crumbs which happen when you cook a lot. One of my roommates actually brought a little light weight vaccuum…soooo handy! I’m currently in Ragans so there is a lot of space that needs vaccuuming. Cawthon doesn’t have a kitchen or that much floor space, but still get the $5 social fee, there may be many instances where they may need it.
Cleaning supplies: windex, shower/toilet/sink cleaner (I use soft scrub all purpose bathroom cleaner), sponges, bounty towels, clorox wipes, hand sanitizer/soap, all surface anti-bacterial spray and reusable wipes.
I like to keep my space and apartment clean and so do my roommates. Not all college students are messy.

Hey, it’s nice to know there are tidy college students out there! :-)

Kidding aside though, it’s nice to know there’s access to a vacuum etc with a social fee. The dorm rooms are rather small and having to keep misc appliances may make it tight. I figured we’d get him a small bin for cleaning supplies and assumed roommates would stock the room as the year went.

My son will be entering Cawthon this fall as well. He can’t wait.

While you can get supplies with the social fee card, it’s also a good idea to have some as well. From experience, there are possibly some things that the front desk won’t have when you need them.

I highly recommend just spending the few bucks to get some windex, shower cleaner, sponges, some paper towels, hand sanitizer and soap, and at the very least some Lysol or Clorox wipes.

Since the dorms are mostly not carpeted, I’d also recommend spending the $10 or so and getting a Swiffer. Those things come in really handy.

We bought our daughters a small, shoulder supported vacuum cleaner. I don’t remember the exact brand, but it is a high-quality device with replaceable bag filters and various brushes. Ours went for about $140 new and it lasted more than 4 years. We bought it at a vacuum store.

In our experience as students and then as parents of students we found that before you move into a dorm room it is best to vacuum and otherwise clean it thoroughly BEFORE you bring in all the boxes and belongings.
